Successfully completing our thru-hike of the 2,175-mile long Appalachian Tail, on September 25, 2006, was an exciting and life-changing experience; an adventure that has had a profound impact on how we view the world around us and that has offered us new insight and direction into how we approach life. Our desire is to share these insights and that inspiration with others.

We have developed several motivational presentations that are tailored for churches, businesses, industry and civic organizations as well as clubs and outdoor activities related organizations.   We can provide talks specific to the Appalachian Trail or other trails in the Maryland and Virginia areas, as we also participate in the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) “Trail Talkers” program.  In this context, talks are suitable for State and National Parks, scout troups, and local organizations and include information about the Appalachian Trail as well as other trails in the Mid-Atlantic area.

Examples of current presentations:

“Dream It!...Plan It!...Live it!”

Using our six-month adventure as a foundation, the “Dream It!...Plan It!...Live it!” presentation challenges everyone to pursue their dreams; no matter what their age or however incredible the dream may seem.   This presentation is suitable for luncheon or dinner talks and provides an overview about the Appalachian Trial, but also provides insight on identifying dreams, rekindling passions, steps to take in “life planning” and helpful hints on fulfilling life dreams.  This is our favorite presentation as we both enjoy helping other people live out their life dreams.

“Spiritual Reflections from the Appalachian Trail”

“Spiritual Reflections from the Appalachian Trail” is tailored for faith-based organizations and, drawing upon the physical, mental and emotional challenges of this six-month odyssey, the audience is presented with the parallels of this adventure and those of our walk of faith.   It is an inspiring reflection of our life on the trail and looks at following the right path, prayer, perseverance, relationships with people, praise (worship), possessions (materialism), humility, and service,  This presentation is suitable for churches, spiritual leadership conferences, and youth ministries.

The Care and Feeding of the Long Distance Hiker

For even the seasoned veteran, a long-distance hike tests the very limits of endurance. What steps can a hiker take to minimize the brutal physical affects of days, weeks and even months on the trail and maximize the chances for success?

In this presentation, we provide valuable tools for surviving a long-distance hike; the very same tools we used during our 2006 Appalachian Trail thru-hike and section hike of The Long Trail. We discuss creative and nutritious alternatives to standard “off-the-shelf” dehydrated meals as well as other important nutrition tips. We also share our secrets for minimizing, and even eliminating, blisters and demonstrate other techniques we employed to keep ourselves healthy. Our presentation also covers comparisons of stoves, the importance of water filtration and the specifics of “comfort-lite” hiking.

Each presentation is complete with reflections about life on the trail, answers to "Frequently Asked Questions", and wonderful anecdotes about the people and places that make up the legendary Appalachian Trail.

The visual wonders of the AT are displayed through a backdrop of stunning photos from the DVD “Appalachian Trail Reflections”. Native American flute music, from “Windtalker - Native SoundScapes” welcomes the audience and establishes the reflective mood for the presentation to come.
